Language speech synthesis software jRaja (VAJA 6.0 Home Edition) translates Thai text into speech sound files (example sound file) that can be played immediately or saved in WAV file format.
This program could be ideal for native speakers and learners of Thai as a foreign language. Text can be copied from any application (e.g. web browser) and pasted into jRaja for speech synthesis.

Please note that due to licencing reasons the installation package is hosted on the NECTEC web servers. The speech synthesis program (25MB) is now bundled with a Java installer bringing the total package size to about 90MB.
VAJA / JRAJA software is freeware developed by the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). Please check the terms of use before downloading and installing the software. For once I’m really impressed with something produced by NECTEC. The program downloaded and installed on my computer without problem, and the synthesized sound (is that what it is?) has a natural rhythm that sounds much better than some other programs. It also appears to be capable of reading English words although I haven’t played with that much.

The file is hosted on the NECTEC website and they appear to be very unreliable at providing the download service. Unfortunately, the terms of use prevent us from hosting the program (which we could easily do) and we are trying to find a solution to this problem.

is there any version that will work on Mac? I’m running OS X 10.4.11. any help is appreciated and keep up the good work.
This program runs on Windows only; however, you could install VirtualBox and Windows as a guest operating system. That solution worked for me.

NECTEC appear to have moved or deleted the file. I will check this out now.
The NECTEC website appears to be having problems, again.

However, the download link appears to be broken. If this continues, we may contact NECTEC and offer to host the files on the Bangkok Library servers.
It’s still not possible to download the vaja program – server error.
I suggest emailing the research team asking them to re-upload the file.

You’re right. The file should be hosted on the NECTEC website but yet again it appears the government website has problems. We’d prefer to host it directly on Bangkok Library but the user agreement prohibits us from doing so. We’ll try to investigate the matter further.
