UK pensions frozen on retirement to Thailand – act now!

Are you a British citizen retired or planning to retire to Thailand? If so, you should consider the unfair way that the British government will freeze your state pension. This is irrespective of the amount that you have paid into the UK economy and tax system and goes on despite millions of immigrants entering the UK and claiming state benefits — the ones that you paid for.

Under regulation 3 of the Social Security Benefits Up-rating Regulations British pensioners who retire to any one of over 120 countries, mainly in the Commonwealth, have their rightful state pension frozen. Meanwhile, those who retire to other countries have their pension uprated annually, just as though they never left the UK. This discriminatory policy currently impacts on the lives of over half a million British pensioners and curtails the freedom of choice of all British pensioners in retirement. We call for this Government to heed the plea of the International Consortium of British Pensioners to repeal this Regulation.

Serious fire at Fico Building, Asoke

A serious fire has broken out earlier today (Saturday 3 March 2012) at the Fico Building (Thai: ตึกฟิโก้) in Soi Asoke, Sukhumvit Soi 21. Initial reports in the Thai Daily News would suggest the fire started on the 7th floor at around 2.40 pm and then spread up to the 12th floor. Officials were unable to confirm the extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties in the office building.
